A whimsical lamentation on a seemingly bygone era, Shenanigans at Sunset (dir. Kayla Jeanson) follows a dinner theatre troupe in the small town of Oak Bank, Manitoba, as it prepares for its 23rd season. With a cast of 20 members and 14 sold out shows every year, Oak Bank United Church’s dinner theatre is a remarkable group of volunteer producers, directors, performers, ushers, cooks, and dishwashers. At the heart of the film is their passionate, sustained dedication to their quirky community, demonstrating a way of life that may fade with time.
“A weird wince of nostalgia kept on tugging at me while watching.
Nostalgia for what; I’m not too sure exactly.
But it was there and it was quite lovely.”
~ James Swirsky (Indie Game: The Movie)
